The Edward Avery McIlhenny Papers consist of business, scientific, and personal correspondence documenting Edward Avery McIlhenny's involvement with numerous state and national organizations, as well as his achievements in ornithology, zoology, botany, and related fields between 1911 and 1947. One box of photographs depict whale hunting, ducks, and other birds. The papers also include approximately 30 notebooks of bird banding records, between 4,000 and 5,000 bird banding return cards, issues of bird banding magazines, and approximately 40 envelopes containing bands, all covering the years 1916-1947.

Edward Avery "Ned" McIlhenny, son of Tabasco brand pepper sauce inventor Edmund McIlhenny, was a Louisiana businessman, explorer, naturalist, and conservationist. He participated in Arctic expeditions as a young man before assuming control of the McIlhenny Company, overseeing Tabasco sauce production as president of the organization until his death.
